The Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu is located in an ecosystem called cloud forest, characterized by lush vegetation and high mountains with cliffs. It lies between mountain range and high forest and so its ecosystem creates a wide variety of flora and fauna.

This ecosystem is rich in biodiversity, hosting: Spectacled Bears (a symbol of the Sanctuary), Tarukas (Andean deer), llamas, many beautiful Peruvian birds such as the Rupicola, Quetzal, mountain toucan, and a variety of hummingbirds. Orchids, giant ferns, palms and bromeliads also grow here. Machu Picchu is a sacred place for the Incas due to its special location, climate, and natural resources. We will explore all its temples, shrines, the sun gate and the Inca bridge. This historic shrine in 1993 was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You will be seeing one of the 7th wonders of the world!
